Detention orders issued for 48 people in operation targeting Seferihisar Municipality, 43 detained
Official documents on an office desk

Within the investigation into Seferihisar Municipality, detention orders were issued for 48 suspects over allegations of irregularities and bribery in construction and zoning procedures as well as municipal tenders. A total of 43 people, including municipal staff and contractors, were detained in the operation.

In the previous phase of the investigation, 25 people, including Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin and deputy mayors, were detained on June 25, while 12 people, including Yetişkin, were arrested on June 30. Yetişkin was suspended from office by the Ministry of Interior on the same day.

Why it matters

The new phase of the investigation shows that the case is not limited to the municipal administration but extends to a broader circle that includes municipal staff and contractors. This directly concerns not only people linked to zoning, construction and tender procedures, but also the municipality’s administrative functioning. The mayor’s suspension from office and the arrests in the previous phase have increased the investigation’s impact on the municipal administration, while leaving open the question of how the vacancy in the mayoral office will be managed. The difference between those for whom detention orders were issued and those who were apprehended shows that the status of the remaining suspects and the scope of the investigation going forward have not yet been clarified.
