The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an ex officio investigation into allegations made by Yeni Parti Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik following the election for acting mayor of Üsküdar and requested a statement from Üsküdar Municipal Council member Ayhan Aydın. Aydın denied Çelik’s claims that he had surrendered because a prosecutor had threatened him with arrest and there was no one to care for his disabled wife and son. Aydın alleged that Çelik had called him repeatedly before the election and that attempts had been made to pressure him during numerous conversations. The Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office also launched an investigation into Çelik and Üsküdar District Chair Berk Tütüncü following complaints filed by three council members in August. The members stated that they had been subjected to threats, insults and pressure.
