Türkiye joins the Artemis Accords
A spacecraft in lunar orbit

Türkiye became the 71st participant in the Artemis Accords, signed at NASA Headquarters in Washington on August 31. The accords cover principles such as sharing scientific data, emergency assistance, transparency, the registration of space objects and the peaceful use of space resources, but do not finalize AYAP-1’s technical schedule.

Under AYAP-1, a domestically developed spacecraft will be placed into Earth orbit via an international launch, after which it is planned to head toward the Moon using a hybrid rocket engine developed in Türkiye and perform a controlled hard landing. The mission aims to test domestic subsystems under deep-space conditions.
