The AI-generated “actress” Tilly Norwood is having a hard time during a press tour organized by Particle6 Group, which developed her. Norwood is reportedly making mistakes in many of the interviews as she takes part in 75 simultaneous interviews with journalists.
In a recorded interview with Piers Morgan and actor Tom Conti, Conti asks Norwood whether the other actors in Misaligned, the film she is promoting, are also products of AI. Norwood initially says that human writers, editors and directors were involved in the project. When she reportedly fails to understand the question, she begins explaining that the other actors are “digital twins” like her.
Norwood suddenly stops while talking about the hybrid production and speaks Chinese for more than 10 seconds. When the seemingly perplexed Morgan asks why, Norwood apologizes, describing what happened as a “glitch” and saying that she had spoken Chinese unintentionally and had not impersonated Morgan.
It is stated that AI systems can be convincing when behaving like humans and that this can lead to dangerous consequences in some cases. However, Norwood’s failure to communicate with humans is reported to be striking. The article also raises the possibility that Particle6 Group may have anticipated that Norwood would become a subject of ridicule—and thus be talked about more—knowing that the film would not be taken seriously.
Why it matters
This incident shows that an AI-generated actor will be evaluated not only by how it appears on screen, but also by how consistently it can communicate during promotional activities conducted with real people. The use of digital actors in a production involving human writers, editors and directors leaves open the question of how viewers will distinguish human contribution and responsibility in the content. The fact that systems that behave like humans can be convincing makes it difficult to regard communication failures as merely a minor promotional flaw. It remains unclear whether what happened was caused by a technical glitch or was part of a promotional approach intended to generate more discussion about the film.
