Introduction
Ridley Scott gave a humorous response to Quentin Tarantino selecting Black Hawk Down, released in 2001, as the best film of the 21st century. Speaking to The Times, Scott said, “I wonder what he was on, because whatever he’s using, I want some of it too”; when asked whether he thought the film was the best of the century, he replied, “No!”
Developments
In the list Tarantino announced last year, Black Hawk Down ranked ahead of films such as Toy Story 3, Lost in Translation and There Will Be Blood.
Details
Scott said he had not discussed the choice with Tarantino, but noted that Tarantino and his brother Tony Scott, who died in 2021, admired each other.
The 88-year-old director also argued that crime and superhero stories have overfilled the market in modern cinema. Scott’s latest film, The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi, will be released this week.
