SEGA and RGG Studio have released a 12-minute gameplay video from STRANGER THAN HEAVEN’s Gamescom 2026 demo. The game will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on January 15, 2027. It tells the story of Makoto Daito, who was born to an American father and a Japanese mother, in a narrative spanning from 1915 to 1965. The adventure takes place in Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Osaka, Shizuoka, and Tokyo.
The game features a combat system based on using the character’s right and left sides independently; players will be able to use weapons such as knives, hammers, and katanas in addition to their fists. As the story progresses, Makoto will discover his musical talent and become an entertainer. The game will be available for purchase through Steam and the Microsoft Store, and will also be included in Game Pass.
Why it matters
The released gameplay footage shows that STRANGER THAN HEAVEN offers more than just a period story, building character development through both combat and music. While the system based on using the two sides of the body independently stands out as the game’s key point of differentiation in terms of its approach to action, the variety of weapon options makes how this structure will be implemented important for players.
