According to a report by Moore’s Law Is Dead, NVIDIA is targeting the first half of 2027 for the launch of the Rubin architecture-based GeForce RTX 60 series. The reason the series has slipped from its planned 2026 date, after previously being said to have been delayed until 2028, is that TSMC capacity has been allocated to AI chips due to demand. The scarcity of technical leaks is attributed to precautions taken by NVIDIA. The flagship “Big Rubin” GeForce RTX 6090 could reportedly differentiate itself with a chiplet design or AI hardware focused on Neural Processing (Neural Rendering). TSMC’s 2nm costs, memory shortages and AI demand could push prices to record levels; it is suggested that the supply shortages and high prices seen with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 could also affect the new series.
Why it matters
The shift of production capacity toward AI chips shows that consumer graphics cards are competing for the same resources with products that are in higher demand. Regardless of the new architecture’s readiness, this makes TSMC capacity, 2nm costs and memory shortages key variables in availability and pricing. The problems experienced with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 also keep supply conditions on the agenda for users awaiting the new series. Since the chiplet design and Neural Rendering hardware remain possibilities for now, it is still unclear how the RTX 6090 will differ from the previous generation. Moreover, the lack of clarity over the relationship between the 2027 target and the previously reported delay until 2028 means the timeline claim should be treated with caution.
