MSB says claim that foreign elements affiliated with SDG will leave Syria and some will come to Türkiye is untrue
Surveillance tower on the border line

The Ministry of National Defence (MSB) denied claims that foreign elements affiliated with SDG would leave Syria and that some of them would come to Türkiye. The ministry said it was monitoring the dissolution process being carried out within the framework of Syria’s territorial integrity and the understanding of “one state, one army.”

It was announced that pilot training under the Eurofighter Typhoon procurement agreement signed with the United Kingdom began in August, and that pilots who have completed terminology training will begin flight training on 7 September 2026. Flight training will last 8 months, while Instructor Pilot Training will last 3 months.

It was stated that the ship hijacked in Somali territorial waters was rescued after pirates abandoned it following an operation by the Somali authorities, with Türkiye’s support.

At the Mecca Defence Alliance meeting, it was decided to establish a secretariat in Saudi Arabia. Pakistan will assume the Secretariat-General for the first three years. The countries aim to develop cooperation in joint planning, training, exercises, the defence industry and technology.

Why it matters

The statements show that the defence agenda is being addressed not only through procurement and military training, but also in conjunction with regional security claims, maritime security and multilateral structures. The rejection of the claim that foreign elements affiliated with SDG would come to Türkiye indicates that the official position on the issue is taking shape within the framework of the current separation process and Syria’s territorial integrity. While the training schedule under the Eurofighter program indicates that the procurement is progressing in stages and in connection with personnel preparation, no details have been given on what kind of operational plan will be followed after the training is completed. The rescue operation in Somalia demonstrates the practical outcome of cooperation between the local authorities and Türkiye against piracy. The establishment of a secretariat for the Mecca Defence Alliance, meanwhile, creates a new framework for moving the planned joint efforts onto an institutional footing.
