Field Trials of Humanoid Robot Technology
At the event held at the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing, the mobility, balance control systems, and joint strength of humanoid robots are being comprehensively tested. The five-day event features 666 teams and 2 thousand 56 robots from 16 countries. The machines compete in areas requiring physical performance, such as running, football, and tai chi. Through the event, which consists of 51 different disciplines, organizers aim to push the limits of how autonomous systems can be used in daily life and industrial environments.
Speed and Endurance Tests in Track Races
The 400-meter race in the small robot category was held on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The Tiangong Omni-04 model finished first after completing the course in 45.66 seconds. Most competing systems fell over before reaching the finish line or were forced to stop due to loss of balance, software malfunctions, or hardware overheating. As part of the event, the real-time responses of autonomous driving and movement algorithms to field conditions are being examined.
At the previously announced World Humanoid Robot Games, weightlifting, combat, and precision assembly tasks are also taking center stage alongside autonomous competitions.
Challenging Movements and Heat Control
In the tai chi events, robots perform physical movements requiring high precision, such as sudden changes of direction, kicking, and spinning in the air. Engineers say these power moves make it possible to directly measure motor torque capacity, joint durability, and overall system performance. Engineering teams closely monitor the robots’ battery management systems and thermal cooling mechanisms following competitions requiring intense exertion and analyze the data obtained.
Adaptation to Real-Life Conditions
The event features 21 different scenario-based tasks covering traditional sports as well as areas such as factory assembly lines, emergency response, and household services. Performances showcasing robots’ autonomous perception capabilities, including tennis matches played against human opponents, also attract attention throughout the event.
The technical data collected is expected to contribute to the safer deployment of autonomous humanoid robots in manufacturing facilities and the service sector.
