Google enables conversational personalization of the Discover feed
Content feed on a smartphone

Introduction

Google announced new features that will increase personalization in the Discover and News experiences. Users will be able to describe in natural language, through a chat-based interface, the content they want to see in their Discover feed. The feed will be updated instantly based on requests and will remember preferences for future use.

Developments

The feature, which began being tested last year, will first be made available on Google’s mobile app in the coming days.

Daily audio overviews in the Google News Android app will also be customizable according to categories such as current affairs, business, entertainment and lifestyle, sports, science and technology. News sources will be shown, and links directing users to the full content will be provided.

Details

Publishers will also be able to add a “Preferred Sources” button to their sites. Content from selected publications may be shown more frequently in the Top Stories section of Google Search; preferences may also be reflected in AI Overviews and AI Mode. The feature will be available globally for Top Stories in all languages supported by Google Search.
