Former TikTok employees Melody Chu and Jing Liu developed Superpose, an AI-powered iOS app that offers posing suggestions for photos. The camera app generates 4 different pose options during a shoot and helps users position themselves in the frame with its “pose matching” feature.
Released in July, Superpose has been downloaded more than 22,000 times, and more than 190,000 poses have been generated in the app. Users can generate 5 poses for free each day.
Why it matters
By using AI to provide guidance at the moment a photo is taken rather than editing it afterward, Superpose is opening up a different use case for camera apps. Pose options and matching support make the process of composing a shot more guided for iOS users who have difficulty deciding how to pose. When the download and pose generation figures are considered together, the app appears to have achieved multiple generations per download; however, it is unclear how many people have become regular users. While the daily allowance of five free generations makes the core functionality accessible, how this limit affects user habits also remains unclear. The founders’ TikTok backgrounds indicate that the product was developed on the basis of their experience in visual content and camera experiences.
