With the AM broadcast band being phased out, millions of devices built to receive it could turn into electronic waste, while some are said to have become collector’s items. [GarethDaviesLondon] built a small AM transmitter to keep his old tube radios working. The ESP32-S3 at the heart of the device takes an internet radio stream and generates an RF signal with a pulse train over GPIO; a widely spaced wire coil placed inside the 3D-printed enclosure is enough for the signal to reach the old radios. The output is 200kHz for the European longwave band; it is estimated that a higher medium-wave frequency could also be generated. He admits that this may not be legal, but it is thought that no one will notice at this power level.
