Dell introduced its new laptop, the Dell 14S, targeting students at IFA 2026. The model will be positioned below the recently released XPS 13 and offered as an affordable option. The 14S, which features an aluminum body, will be available in four colors: linen (beige), dusty rose (pink), washed denim (blue) and velvet green.
While the base model offers 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, the device can also be configured with 16GB RAM and 512GB or 1TB SSD options. Although the computer is not as thin and light as the XPS 13, it features two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, along with DisplayPort and Power Delivery support, as well as HDMI 1.4 and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Among the Dell 14S’s non-touch display options are an LCD with 300 nits of brightness, a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a 60Hz refresh rate, as well as a panel with 450 nits of brightness, a resolution of 2880 x 1800 and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device features a 1080p webcam with Windows Hello facial recognition support. Dell says the battery can last up to 23 hours while streaming Netflix.
Processor options will be limited to the Intel Core 5 320 and Core 7 350; Intel Panther Lake options will not be offered. Pricing has not yet been announced. Dell representatives said the starting price would be close to the XPS 13’s $700 level, but somewhat more accessible. The exact price is expected to be announced closer to the launch later in the fall.
Why it matters
Dell 14S shows how the company’s student-focused product lineup will balance its more accessible positioning than the XPS 13 with its hardware choices. Retaining connectivity options such as HDMI and a headphone jack in exchange for a thicker and heavier chassis means the device will need to be evaluated not only for portability but also for flexibility in everyday use. Different memory, storage and display options will allow students to choose between budget and performance, while the limits of the base configuration will determine that balance. The absence of Intel Panther Lake processors suggests that the model may be more limited for users seeking up-to-date processor options. At the same time, the fact that pricing has not been announced leaves open exactly how accessible the 14S will be and where its advantage over the XPS 13 will lie.
