Floating energy platform near a port

US-based offshore nuclear energy company Bluecore Energy has received investment from Borusan Ventures, the venture capital firm of Borusan Group. The investors listed below participated in the 50 million dollar seed round led by Silverton Partners:

  • Borusan Ventures
  • Slauson & Co
  • Harlem Capital Partners
  • Precursor Ventures
  • LMNT Ventures
  • VCs and angel investors

The company aims to provide low-carbon, uninterrupted power to ports, coastal industries and data centers by placing small modular reactors on floating platforms. The solution can be transported by sea. The first system is planned to generate approximately 10 megawatts of power, operate for years without refueling and be expanded with new units when needed. The first barge and test reactor have been transported to the Port of Long Beach. Bluecore aims to use the system to provide power to cargo ships in the future as well. The company is scaling down water-cooled reactor technology that has been used for more than 70 years and adapting it for barges.
