With the start of the football season in the US, Search introduced new features for use on game days. A Live Game Feed, more detailed player and league statistics, and a fantasy football account connection are among these new features.
Users will be able to search for an ongoing game and select the red “Live” icon to follow the matchup in real time. The feed will include an overall game summary, a timeline made up of play-by-play updates, highlighted social media reactions, key video highlights, and AI-powered insights. For professional football, the Live Game Feed is now available on mobile devices in English in the US. College teams will also be supported later this month, and the feature will be rolled out in more countries.
The new matchup carousel added to search results will allow users to see the scores of other games in the league without conducting individual searches. The new statistics will show leaders in categories such as passing touchdowns and rushing yards, as well as detailed player data including sacks, turnovers, and yards after catch. Championship contenders and playoff brackets will also soon be added to Search. These features will be available worldwide on mobile.
Users will be able to connect their Yahoo Fantasy or Sleeper accounts to Search to get roster recommendations, waiver wire targets, draft evaluations, and weekly league summaries through AI Mode. The connection is now available in English in the US.
Why it matters
This package transforms Search from a results page showing only scores into a use case that combines game tracking and player data in one place. While reducing the need for different sources and separate searches during games, detailed statistics make it easier for both fans following the league as a whole and fantasy football players to make comparisons. Connecting an account means that personal roster and league information will be included in recommendations and summaries in AI Mode; thus, general sports search also encompasses user-specific assistance. However, availability varies by feature: while some functions are limited to the US, English, and mobile devices, others will be offered worldwide; the details of the country expansion and when the different features will become available with the same scope have not been disclosed.
