Apple introduced a redesigned version of the Apple Health app alongside the new Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. Powered by Apple Intelligence, the app offers a new Insights tab, personalized recommendations and assessments to make health data easier to understand.
With the update, a “readiness” score will be calculated based on users’ sleep, activity, heart health and other metrics. The “Health Age” feature will compare data such as VO2 max, sleep and blood biomarkers with their actual age. The new Longevity tab will provide an overall health assessment using iPhone and Apple Watch data; lab results can also be added to these recommendations.
Apple also announced that it would partner with Quest to offer a panel containing 50 biomarkers for $119. For example, the app could recommend adding interval training to a morning run to improve cardiovascular health. Fitness and heart health analyses will be expanded; users will be able to receive comprehensive assessments of their body movements. Trainers will be able to demonstrate movements during the assessment.
The updated app will become available later this year, initially with U.S. English support.
Why it matters
The update opens the door to moving health data in the Apple ecosystem beyond mere monitoring and interpreting it through personalized assessments and exercise recommendations. Using sleep, movement, heart health, laboratory results, and biomarkers within the same framework could make health tracking more comprehensive for users who collect data from different sources. In return, how users will interpret indicators such as readiness and Health Age, and the extent to which the recommendations will guide daily decisions, remain open questions. The $119 price of the panel containing 50 biomarkers to be offered through Quest is also a factor that could affect access to these comprehensive assessments. The inconsistency in the planned release date, meanwhile, leaves the actual timing of availability uncertain.
