İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, who has joined the AK Parti, answered journalists’ questions following the opening meeting of the legislative year with AK Parti deputies. Tugay said he had been warmly received by President Erdoğan, as well as by ministers and deputies, and that the sole goal was to provide the best service to İzmir and solve the city’s problems; “we will work day and night, and İzmir will breathe a sigh of relief all at once,” he said.
Regarding Erdoğan’s possible visit to İzmir, Tugay said that Chairman Eyüp had invited him and that it would be assessed according to his schedule. On the possibility of others from other districts joining the party, he stated that he had not spoken with anyone and therefore could not know.
Tugay said that the words “being the one for those who have no one” belonged to Erdoğan, that they reminded him of Atatürk’s statement “The Republic is the one for those who have no one,” and that this showed the AK Parti carries on the legacy of the Republic.
