MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, in a speech on the occasion of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye’s new legislative year, expressed his wish that the new term would be auspicious for the country and its democratic life; he commemorated with grace the deputies who have passed away, first and foremost Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Describing the Gazi Assembly as “the heart of the Turkish state,” Bahçeli said that the culture of consultation and deliberation forms the main backbone of Turkish customary tradition. According to Bahçeli, consultation is a consciousness of national belonging that prevents social tensions.

Noting that coups have strengthened the nation’s commitment to democracy, Bahçeli stated that unstable governments and coalitions have led to distortion; “The fixed leg of the compass is Ankara,” he said. He emphasized that they would carry the three crescents to the summit in every field.

Noting that there is a historic opportunity to be free of terrorism, Bahçeli said that every allegation must be investigated transparently. He emphasized that Türkiye must not remain under an erosion of social trust. Criticizing the UN for failing to intervene in the genocide, Bahçeli described Netanyahu’s speech at the UN as “a document of shame for humanity.”

Stating that experience and will are needed on the path toward a “Terror-Free Türkiye and Terror-Free Region,” Bahçeli said that President Erdoğan should once again be a candidate and be elected; he called for a decision to renew elections in the Assembly so that elections would be held in 2028.
