Adobe is trying to make the AI generators in Premiere easy for everyone to use
A dark video editing studio

Adobe is reorganizing the use of AI tools in its professional video editing software, Premiere. According to the report dated September 8, 2026, the Generative Media interface makes it possible to generate video, sound effects, music, and soundscapes without leaving the project timeline. Editors can select a gap in a video or audio track to create contextually appropriate, fully editable clips, without needing to switch to a browser or external applications. Adobe Firefly, Google Veo, Runway, Luma, and Kling models can be selected directly from the timeline. AI audio tools are also coming to Premiere in beta, separating overlapping speakers, lowering music during speech, and independently adjusting dialogue and ambient sound. Adobe is also adding a beta AI assistant to After Effects; this assistant can edit projects using plain-language commands, troubleshoot technical issues, and create effects without writing expressions.

Why it matters

This change aims to consolidate the video production workflow, which relies on moving between different tools, within the Premiere workspace. Having multiple model options in the same interface ties the decision over which system will be used to generate content to the editor’s workflow. The audio tools, meanwhile, make it possible to handle audio layers within an edit more independently, particularly in projects that combine speech, music, and ambient sound. However, the fact that some capabilities in Premiere and After Effects are still in beta indicates that their scope of use and reliability in day-to-day productions have yet to become clear; for users, the remaining questions are how consistently generated content can be edited within existing projects and what limits will apply to the assistant’s authority to resolve technical issues.
