Adobe Photoshop Gets a Host of Useful New Features
Graphic designer workspace

Adobe has released a comprehensive update for Adobe Photoshop. The package brings new features for AI-powered tools, as well as layers, typography and stock content. The optional AI Assisted Editor, currently in beta, enables editing through natural-language commands, while classic Pro Editor users can also access these capabilities through the Contextual Task Bar. Edit with Commands transforms images without requiring a selection, while saving the results as separate generative layers. Remove Background, Remove Object, Generative Expand, Generative Fill, Image Resolution Enhancement and AI Markup, which allows users to provide guidance by drawing over an image, are also included in the interface. The Light Adjustment Layer provides six controls for exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites and blacks. Powered by Firefly Image 5, Instruct Edit with Masks makes changes such as adding a hat or opening closed eyes without precise masking, while preserving faces, logos and brand assets. Dynamic text adapts to curves and freeform shapes. The features are now available; AI Assisted Editor is limited to beta.

Why it matters

The update moves AI in Photoshop from being a separate experimental tool into the classic editing workflow, changing in particular how time-consuming tasks such as selections and precise masking are performed. Keeping the results in separate generative layers makes prompt-based edits reversible and manageable alongside the existing layer structure, addressing professional users’ need for control. Offering lighting, typography and stock content innovations in the same package shows that the change is not limited to visual generation, but covers different stages of everyday design work. However, while the beta status of AI Assisted Editor limits the scope of its use, the absence of an official announcement and date information leaves open the question of independently verifying the features’ scope.
