Members of the DEM Party’s İmralı delegation, Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar and Özgür Faik Erol, met with Abdullah Öcalan on September 13. The delegation released Öcalan’s assessments regarding the process and current developments. DEM Party officials said Öcalan had once again emphasized that some of the minutes of the meeting circulating publicly had no connection to reality.
Öcalan said that the assessments of Idris-i Bitlisi within the scope of the Democratic Society Manifesto had been reflected incompletely. He said that recalling the alliance between the Ottoman Empire and the Sunni emirates did not mean reviving the old structure; their aim was not to assimilate Alevism into Sunnism, but to make Kurds and Alevis, with their identities, the founding subjects of a democratic alliance. He considered the Alevi Renaissance one of the important pillars of a shared democratic future.
Describing developments in Rojava as “an overt provocation,” Öcalan called for the sabotage targeting the basis for dialogue to be halted. In Iran, he said he considered PJAK’s policy of defending the people without entering other spheres of influence to be correct. He called for an end to the “madness of executions” and Iran’s attacks on the Kurdish region; otherwise, he said, Kurds would have the right to legitimate self-defense and Turkey should play a positive role. Extending his condolences, he said that the late Mehdi Zana had made significant efforts for the will of the people on the basis of local democracy.
