Vivo announces the date for OriginOS 7: major changes are coming with Android 17

Vivo will introduce OriginOS 7, based on Android 17, at the Vivo Developer Conference to be held on 16 September. The update will bring changes to interface design, animations, Liquid Themes, the sticker library and personalization features such as Atomic Workbench. BlueOS 4 for IoT devices will also be shown at the same event.

OriginOS 7 will offer performance improvements through changes to memory management and the scheduling algorithm. According to Vivo, graphics rendering performance will improve by 14%, app launch speeds by 12% and page transition response times by 19%.

Why it matters

The impact of the update will be assessed through everyday-use fluidity because it addresses memory management and scheduling algorithms, rather than being limited to visual changes. The performance figures shared by Vivo provide measurements for different use cases, such as graphics rendering, app launches and page transitions; however, it has not yet been disclosed on which devices and under what conditions these gains will be observed. Innovations in the personalization tools could directly affect the experience of users who place importance on changing the interface. The introduction of BlueOS 4, developed for IoT devices, within the same framework also makes Vivo’s approach to its device ecosystem beyond phone software possible to track.
