Donald Trump joked during a dinner with outdoor enthusiasts and industry executives at the White House Rose Garden on Thursday evening that he had the power to ban fishing. Trump signed executive orders aimed at expanding hunting and fishing opportunities and removing some restrictions from the Biden era. Among the attendees was Johnny Morris, the billionaire founder of Bass Pro Shops.
Saying the executive orders would extend the fishing season and support the industries, Trump said Morris would sell more fishing rods. He argued that no president other than Theodore Roosevelt could compete with him when it came to American hunters and anglers.
Trump also described renovations at the White House; he said he had paved the Rose Garden and that a black-and-white granite helipad designed to resemble the presidential seal had been built in the South Lawn. In July, he announced that Sikorsky Aircraft had covered the helipad’s cost, which amounted to approximately 5 or 6 million dollars.
