TikTok users can request a copy of the data linked to their accounts through the app. Depending on the account’s usage and the data available, the file may include the username, viewing and comment history, and privacy settings; its scope may be broader for accounts that have been used for a long time. However, this feature is not a backup method that transfers all videos, drafts, and a complete copy of the app to the phone. Some very recent activity may also not appear in the file immediately.
To make a request, users go to Profile and select Settings and privacy, Account, and Download your data from the Menu in the top right. After checking the information to be downloaded and the file options provided, the user taps the Request data button. Since TikTok prepares the file in the background, there is no need to keep the app open, and the download option may not appear immediately. The request does not delete data from the account; the account can be used normally while preparation is in progress. Once the file is ready, it can be downloaded from the same section.
