Saadet Partisi Chairman Arıkan: We are not closed to alliances, but we will not get lost in them
An empty conference hall

Saadet Party’s major consultation camp, held between 4-6 September, began in the Kozaklı district of Nevşehir under the chairmanship of Chairman Mahmut Arıkan. Members of the Presidential Board and the General Administrative Board, members of parliament, and provincial chairpersons from 81 provinces attended the meeting. Field reports, province-based voter analyses, and regional expectations will be discussed in sessions closed to the press.

Speaking at the opening, Arıkan said the party’s alliance principles had not changed, adding that they would not shy away from alliances but would not become a satellite of any political center. He said they would assess alliances by prioritizing the party’s own political strength and principles.

Referring also to scenarios concerning the election date, Arıkan said the election would be held in 2027 and that a period in which alliances would be mandatory would be experienced. Saying that Türkiye was on the threshold of a new political atmosphere, Arıkan drew attention to the possibility of an early or snap election and stated that the period ahead would be dynamic and full of uncertainties.

Why it matters

The discussion of field reports, province-based voter analyses, and regional expectations in the camp’s closed sessions shows that Saadet Party is seeking to shape its alliance decisions not solely through general political discourse but also through data from its party organizations. Arıkan’s statements indicate that the party regards preserving its own political strength and principles as a fundamental condition in possible alliance talks. While this approach emphasizes that Saadet Party will not act under the direction of any political center, it leaves open the question of under what conditions alliances could be formed. Keeping the possibility of an early or snap election on the agenda transforms the camp from merely an internal assessment meeting into a setting where the party clarifies its position in line with different election scenarios and a changing political atmosphere.
