Perplexity has added Portable Computer, an AI agent that runs on local models, to its Windows app for compatible NVIDIA GeForce RTX PCs and NVIDIA RTX PRO Workstations. The agent, the local version of Perplexity Computer, is accelerated by NVIDIA GPUs; it analyzes data in files, combines information, and carries out repetitive tasks. Sensitive information stays on the device, and local processing does not consume Perplexity Computer credits. For tasks requiring more advanced research and reasoning, it asks the user for permission to switch to cloud models.
A local model trained for Perplexity Computer, such as Qwen 3.8 27B, and optimized for NVIDIA RTX GPUs, simplifies the installation process. Connections to Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub are supported. The agent:
- Can organize open pull requests on GitHub according to their status and determine the next steps.
- Can review two years of financial documents to identify the fee and tax implications of recurring investments, with file and page references.
- Can identify a drop in activation through local funnel analysis and send the key findings to Slack.
Portable Computer can be used on NVIDIA GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs with 24GB or more of VRAM; support for NVIDIA DGX Station is expected to arrive soon. Support was previously available on NVIDIA DGX Spark and RTX PCs running Linux.
