Introduction
Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted nine people accused of illegally shipping Supermicro-made artificial intelligence servers containing advanced Nvidia chips to China. The defendants include one Nvidia employee, two Supermicro employees, and one employee each from Albatron Technology and Chief Telecom.
Developments
Eight defendants were accused of smuggling 74 servers into China using forged documents. It was reported that 50 of the servers were shipped via Indonesia, eight via Japan, and the remainder directly to China, while another 56 servers were seized at Taiwan’s border.
Details
Three defendants are also standing trial for embezzlement. Prosecutors sought prison terms of up to five years for seven people and lighter sentences for two who confessed and cooperated.
