The number of people who died in the floods in and around Rasuwa, near Nepal’s border with China, has risen to 579. Bridges were destroyed and roads damaged by the floods; helicopters and 15 thousand security personnel took part in search and rescue operations.
Approximately 4 thousand people were rescued, while 1924 people, 517 of them foreign nationals, were reported missing. Operations are continuing in Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan and Nawalparasi, as well as Rasuwa. Experts said the disaster was caused by an avalanche triggered by chunks of ice.
