Michael Douglas said on Jimmy Kimmel Live that it was probably better for him not to read his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones’s new memoir. In an interview with Today the same day, Zeta-Jones had said she had no intention of reading the book in which her husband recounts the affair he had with Kathleen Turner 40 years ago. Citing the busy filming schedule of Netflix’s Wednesday and the AMC+ series Kill Jackie as her reason, the actress nevertheless said, “Everyone else should read it.”
Pointing out that there is a 25-year age difference between them, Douglas noted that when he had the affair with Turner during the filming of Romancing the Stone in 1984, Zeta-Jones was only 7 years old. This secret affair, which had previously been denied, ended when Douglas’s wife visited the set in Mexico. Turner, for her part, told People that she was looking forward to reading the book with pleasure.
In the book, titled One Helluva Ride, Douglas also discusses his relationship with his Basic Instinct co-star Jeanne Tripplehorn and his brief separation in 2013 from Zeta-Jones, whom he married in 2000.
