In İzmir, 16 of the 18 suspects detained as part of the “Ailem Güvende” operation were arrested, while 2 were released under judicial control.

As part of the investigation, detention orders had been issued for 24 suspects over the offenses of “obscenity” and “inciting prostitution, brokering or providing a place for it” in connection with social media posts. Efforts to apprehend the 6 fugitives are ongoing.

Why it matters

The picture presented in the case file shows that the investigation is not yet the result of a completed trial, but rather a judicial process proceeding through detention orders and different measures imposed by the court. The simultaneous use of arrest and judicial control shows that the same legal outcome did not arise for all the suspects and that the case file is being assessed separately for each person. The fact that the investigation is being conducted through social media posts raises the question of how this content is being assessed in terms of the offenses of obscenity and inciting prostitution, brokering or providing a place for it. The effort to locate the suspects who have not been apprehended shows that the process has not yet been completed for all parties and that details concerning the scope of the case file remain unclear.
