Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi announced in Amasya that 682 thousand personnel serve in organizations under the ministry. Çiftçi said 267 thousand incidents involving 8 major crimes against persons were recorded in the first 8 months of 2026, a 14% decline compared with the average of the past 5 years. Crimes against property also fell by 30.5%, from the 2021-2025 average of 196 thousand 500 to 136 thousand 600. The daily number of fugitives apprehended was 569 in 2024, 562 in 2025 and 599 in 2026. Armed motorcycle attacks fell by 66%, from 193 to 65. Çiftçi said 1592 operations had been carried out against 562 organized crime groups since he took office, adding that legal action had been taken against approximately 3 thousand 500 people in the latest operations. Georgia extradited 438 people this year, while a total of 684 people were extradited to Türkiye from various countries in the first 8 months of 2026.
