Hohem has introduced Eyepic, a portable stabilized camera developed as an alternative to DJI and Insta360 products. Featuring a three-axis gimbal and a rotatable preview screen, the device allows its magnetic camera module to be detached and used like an independent action camera. Eyepic can record 4K video at up to 60fps in either vertical or horizontal orientation. The 2.51-inch touchscreen on the grip enables switching between orientations, while the joystick adjusts the framing and a lever controls zoom.
The detachable module can be clipped onto clothing, attached with the included neck strap, or magnetically connected to compatible surfaces. The screenless module transmits a live 1080p feed to the Eyepic screen for monitoring the framing and changing settings remotely; this function can be used at distances of up to 32 feet. While the camera module is fully waterproof to depths of just over 32 feet, the grip and gimbal are not suitable for use in water. The product’s battery life, internal storage capacity, tracking features, and price have not yet been announced.
Why it matters
Eyepic’s key difference is that it does not limit the stabilizer body and camera module to a single method of use; instead, it offers users different options, such as handheld shooting or attaching it to clothing or a surface. This design is particularly relevant to those who want to record without holding the camera directly, thanks to the ability to monitor the framing remotely and change settings. However, because the device’s waterproofing is limited to the detachable module, the conditions of use are not the same for the entire product. Basic information such as battery life and internal storage capacity is still missing in order to assess the product’s value for everyday use. The fact that the price has not been announced also leaves Eyepic’s position compared with similar products unclear for now.
