Hakan Tosun timeline
The case concerning the death of journalist and environmental rights defender Hakan Tosun, who lost his life after being attacked on the street in Esenyurt on October 10, 2025, was concluded with a verdict at the Bakırköy 17th High Criminal Court.
Speaking in front of the courthouse before the hearing, his sister Öznur Tosun called for the truth to come to light and for the streets to be safe.

The detained defendants Abdurrahman Murat and Adnan Şahin, who are on trial for “intentional killing,” attended the hearing via SEGBİS; extensive security measures were taken at the courthouse. The family’s lawyer Hakan Bozyurt repeated his request for a criminal complaint against Y.Ö., the third person not included in the investigation.

Murat claimed he had no intent to kill; Şahin, for his part, argued that he did not call an ambulance because he thought Tosun had fainted.
The court sentenced both defendants to life imprisonment; it did not apply a sentence reduction for unjust provocation and ruled for the continuation of their detention.
After the hearing, the family’s lawyer Cemal Yücel said the case was also a case about personal safety.
