A funeral ceremony was held at the Mimar Vedat Çakırca Conference Hall at Maltepe University for Prof. Dr. İoanna Kuçuradi, the philosopher, academic and human rights defender who died two days ago at the hospital where she was receiving treatment in Istanbul. A large number of people from the worlds of politics and academia attended the ceremony for Kuçuradi, President of the Turkish Philosophical Society and Honorary President of the Federation of Philosophical Societies of the World, including AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik.

Dr. Yusuf Aksar commemorated Kuçuradi as one of the leading advocates of human rights, philosophy and ethics studies. Prof. Dr. Betül Çotuksöken said that she had embraced philosophy as a way of thinking, knowing and living, and that she had worked at Istanbul University, Atatürk University, Hacettepe University and, for the last 20 years, at Maltepe University.

IMM Deputy Mayor’s remarks

İBB Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan recalled Kuçuradi’s words: “A person is valuable simply because they are human.” Maltepe Mayor Esin Köymen, Prof. Dr. Güncel Önkal and other participants also spoke at the ceremony. Kuçuradi was bid farewell with applause to be buried at the Şişli Greek Orthodox Cemetery.
