LCD Viewing

A user named [Vintage560] repaired an internally damaged Casio AW-330-AT altimeter watch. The exterior of the watch was in good condition, but the battery had leaked inside and it showed no response to a new battery. Cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, reseating the plastic insulator, and straightening the contacts got some segments of the LCD working; turning the crown for two days reduced the resistance in the analog mechanism. The watch was disassembled for the LCD, with care taken for the altitude sensor; cleaning the ZEBRA connector did not yield results.

F91W Digits

Eventually a new display was purchased; it is thought that the battery leak may have dissolved the indium tin oxide contacts on the old display. The watch was tested in the Alps and worked quite accurately with regular calibration. The F91W is usually seen in Casio hacks:

  • contactless payment
  • conversion into a smartwatch
  • 5,000 meters underwater
