Transmission System calendar

The European Union is entering the winter of 2026-2027 with historically low stock levels, with natural gas storage facilities at 72% capacity. The report published by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) assesses the adequacy of gas infrastructure under different supply and demand conditions for the period from October 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.

LNG timeline

According to the report, storage facilities covered approximately 26% of the EU’s total gas consumption in the winter of 2025-2026, and 30% in the previous period. The report, which states that the existing infrastructure is flexible enough to meet demand and that LNG capacity could partially compensate for low stocks, calls for injections to be continued at the start of winter and for stocks to be closely monitored. It warned that if LNG supply remains limited, storage fill levels could fall well below 30% by the end of winter.
