Anker has announced the Soundcore Sleep Earbuds 4 and 4 Pro, designed for use while sleeping on one’s side. Using the sound-masking technology found in last year’s A30 sleepbuds, the earbuds offer longer battery life and improved ANC to help reduce surrounding noise. Both models have a “20 percent smaller contact area” compared with the A30, aiming to reduce pressure on the ear.

The earbuds will come with new cases compatible with wireless charging pads. However, only the 4 Pro’s case features an OLED display. Called SleepHub, the case allows users to control the earbuds without needing a phone, browse preset soundscapes, check sleep data and set an alarm.

According to Anker, when listening to music, podcasts or audiobooks over Bluetooth v6.0, battery life is eight hours with ANC on and 11 hours with it off. For local soundscape playback, these figures are 9.5 hours and 14.5 hours, respectively.

The 4 Pro also features an in-ear PPG sensor to measure stress, fatigue and recovery levels. By tracking sleep status, heart rate and HRV data, the model aims to support falling asleep through its BioSync feature. The Earbuds 4 will go on sale in October for $229.99 / £199.99, while the 4 Pro will launch in November for $349.99 / £299.99.

Why it matters

These models target users who wear earbuds while sleeping and are particularly bothered by the pressure that occurs when sleeping on their side. A smaller contact area and improved noise reduction highlight comfort and the suppression of external sounds together, while the different battery life figures indicate that the devices cater to separate scenarios for listening to music and using local soundscapes. The OLED-equipped SleepHub on the 4 Pro offers additional convenience for nighttime use by making basic controls independent of the phone. BioSync and the PPG sensor, meanwhile, bring the product closer to being a device that tracks sleep and recovery data rather than merely an earbud that plays audio. However, it remains unclear to what extent these measurements will make a meaningful difference to the user experience.
