Dan Stevens will take the lead role in Amazon’s new RoboCop series for Prime Video. The first season will consist of 8 episodes and will follow a police officer who dies in the line of duty and whose mind is transferred into a robotic body by a giant technology company.
The series is being written and executive-produced by Peter Ocko, with James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett also serving as executive producers. Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier, the screenwriters of the original 1987 film, are also contributing to the project as producers.
Why it matters
By bringing RoboCop’s central conflict to an eight-episode series structure, the project creates an opportunity to explore the transformation of the police officer killed in the line of duty and the role of the technology company within a broader narrative. The involvement of Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier, the screenwriters of the original film, as producers establishes a direct creative link between the new adaptation and the 1987 film. Peter Ocko’s role as writer and executive producer also establishes him as the central figure in the series’ writing process. With Dan Stevens cast in the lead role and the executive producers announced, the project’s core creative framework is taking shape, while it remains unclear how the original story will be expanded in the series format.
