Firefighting efforts continue against the forest fire that began on 8 September in Adana’s Kozan district and spread, due to the wind, to some neighborhoods in İmamoğlu and Aladağ. A total of 173 vehicles, including 3 firefighting aircraft, 12 helicopters, 58 fire trucks and 8 TOMA units, along with 717 personnel, are responding to the fire in the Enizçakırı area. While aerial footage is being captured by a UAV, 24 water tankers are providing support; additional aircraft and helicopters are reportedly on their way. Governor Mustafa Yavuz inspected the Musulu neighborhood in the İmamoğlu district. Yavuz said the fire in Aladağ’s Dailer neighborhood had been brought under control in the morning, that the fire in İmamoğlu was continuing and that aerial firefighting operations were being conducted over rugged terrain. While approximately 15 neighborhoods in three districts have been affected, 835 residents from 285 households were evacuated; no loss of life was reported. Some houses and barns in Aladağ’s Dailer neighborhood and in Elifçeler, a sub-neighborhood of Üçtepe, were reportedly damaged. It was reported that there were no water shortages thanks to Yedigöze Dam, the Seyhan River and irrigation canals. Damage assessment will be conducted after the fire under AFAD coordination.
Why it matters
For the 835 evacuees and the households in the affected neighborhoods, the fire constitutes an emergency that has disrupted daily life and led to damage to some houses and barns. The need for aerial intervention over rugged terrain is widening the gap between the areas ground teams can reach and the areas where the fire can be brought under control. The water support provided by Yedigöze Dam, the Seyhan River and irrigation canals is preserving the available capacity to sustain the response; however, as the fire continues, it remains unclear when those evacuated will be able to return and what condition the damaged structures are in. The damage assessment under AFAD coordination will determine both the extent of the affected households and which needs will come to the fore after the response.
Background
Adana is not a new name in the FikirPilot archive: we published a news report mentioning the name in the last 90 days; that article was dated September 8, 2026.
