Justice Minister Akın Gürlek spoke at the Closing Program of the International Justice Summit held at Çırağan Palace. Stating that they aspire to leave a livable world to future generations through sustainable global justice, Gürlek said that the suffering of the homes destroyed in Gaza, the peoples subjected to oppression in Syria, and the children dying of hunger in Africa must be approached with the same sensitivity.

Gürlek said the topics at the summit converged on the words “Justice without force is powerless; force without justice is tyrannical,” and noted that he had reminded his audience that the law is the guarantee of human dignity. Emphasizing that justice is not a favor bestowed by the powerful but the birthright of every human being, Gürlek noted that powerful countries that sustain their prosperity through wars and occupations do not bring peace to their own societies either. Gürlek said the United Nations has ceased to be the center of solutions and has turned into a force that legitimizes wars and occupations.

Drawing attention to nuclear power and saying, “The world does not have the strength to bear a new war,” Gürlek recalled Ibn Khaldun’s words, “Oppression devastates civilization and development.”
