TÜİK has released its 2026 Artificial Intelligence Statistics. The data, based on the Household Information and Communication Technologies Usage Survey and the Information and Communication Technologies Usage Survey in Enterprises, covered the 16-74 age group and enterprises with 10 or more employees. The use of generative artificial intelligence rose from 19.2% in 2025 to 37.6% in 2026 among individuals, while any use of artificial intelligence among enterprises increased from 7.5% to 14.0%.
- Individual use stood at 37.2% among men and 38.1% among women; the highest rate was recorded in the 16-24 age group at 64.9%.
- The rate was recorded at 62.7% among higher education graduates; 45.4% among high school or vocational high school graduates, 35.5% among primary or lower secondary school graduates, and 8.5% among elementary school graduates.
- The purposes of use were personal at 86.4%, professional at 37.3%, and formal education at 32.6%.
- Among enterprises, the rate rose from 2.7% in 2021 to 14.0% in 2026; use was highest in telecommunications, programming and IT, at 63.7%. Marketing or sales was the primary purpose (51.0%).
Why it matters
The data show that artificial intelligence has moved beyond being a limited application in both individual life and businesses, spreading into a broader range of uses. However, the marked differences in usage by age and level of education indicate that this expansion has not taken place to the same extent across all segments of society; the similar rates between genders show that the disparity is concentrated primarily in other variables. The concentration of use among enterprises, particularly in the telecommunications, programming and IT sectors, demonstrates that the technology is not distributed evenly across sectors. While the prominence of marketing and sales suggests that businesses primarily use artificial intelligence in customer-facing and commercial processes, the level of use in other functions remains an open question.
