As AI infrastructure expands, power, cooling, water, site and grid constraints determine which systems can be deployed.
Liquid-cooled data center corridor

As AI infrastructure expands, constraints related to power, cooling, water, site availability, and the grid are determining which systems can be deployed. NVIDIA has launched the NVIDIA DSX Ready qualification program to assess whether products and solutions comply with the requirements of the DSX AI factory reference design.

The program aims to evaluate manufacturers’ offerings, reduce integration risk, and advance toward deployment. The NVIDIA DSX platform treats compute, networking, power, cooling, facilities, and software as a single system.

The initial qualification categories and solutions are as follows:

  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS): Hitachi Energy, LG Energy Solution, and Tesla
  • Cooling distribution units (CDU): LG Electronics, LiquidStack, and Vertiv

BESS providers conduct the required tests and submit supporting data to NVIDIA for review and approval. This qualification does not replace site engineering or site-level stability. CDU providers, meanwhile, determine through a self-qualification package whether a specific product meets NVIDIA’s relevant functional requirements. A qualified product is still evaluated according to the site, configuration, and operational needs of the planned facility. Additional categories in infrastructure and software will be introduced over time.

Why it matters

Because capacity in AI infrastructure is determined not only by computing hardware but also by the compatibility of energy and thermal management with the facility, this program elevates supplier evaluation to the system level. For manufacturers, preparing according to common requirements may reduce uncertainty over the integration of products into infrastructure installations; for facility owners and site engineers, however, these evaluations represent only one part of the decision-making process. In particular, how qualified products will be positioned, configured, and operated under different site conditions must be examined separately. The program’s initial limitation to energy storage and cooling distribution leaves open the question of when infrastructure and software components will be included in the same framework.
