Vivo has revealed the camera specifications of the standard X500 model in the X500 series, which is scheduled to be unveiled in China this month. The phone will feature a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-828 main camera sensor, also used in the current Vivo X300 Pro. The 1/1.28-inch sensor will be accompanied by a gimbal-level image stabilization system developed in collaboration with Zeiss and rated at CIPA 5.5.
The X500’s telephoto camera will feature a 64-megapixel Sony LYT-610 sensor and CIPA 5.5-rated image stabilization support. The camera will also be capable of recording slow-motion video at 120 frames per second in 4K resolution.
Why it matters
The announced specifications show that not only the megapixel count but also the sensor size, stabilization system and telephoto performance will be decisive in evaluating the X500’s camera. The use of a sensor previously featured in the Pro model’s main camera provides a basis for comparison regarding the level targeted by the standard model’s camera hardware. The telephoto camera’s support for high-frame-rate 4K recording stands out as a feature that could particularly appeal to users who shoot slow-motion video. However, it is not yet known how Vivo will translate this hardware into image quality, zoom capabilities and low-light performance; the differences between the other models in the series have also not been disclosed.
