Game Boy overview

In Game Boy repair videos, the device merely booting a game does not verify intermittent faults, faulty buttons, or the connection port. The GB Test Lab board developed by [Marcel Pflug] of the Game Boy Museum aims to test these gaps.

The free ROM examines the functions of the DMG-01 mostly automatically, with user assistance in some tests, when loaded onto an EverDrive or similar flash cartridge. The tests cover:

  • CPU, RAM, and interrupts
  • Button bounce time and intermittent connections
  • Pong between two Game Boys using a link cable
  • Use of the GB Printer

In the system, which resembles Nintendo’s DMG-AGING-01 cartridge, results are saved for each Game Boy and preserved if battery backup is available. The ROM also contains references for components, interpretation of results, and symptoms.
