The death of 81-year-old theater, film and television actress Gülsen Tuncer was announced by the Association of Republican Women. Tuncer, who had been battling cancer for some time, had been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer.
Born in Adana in 1945, Tuncer graduated from the Theater Department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. The actress, who began her professional theater career with “Zilli Zarife” in 1968, worked not only as an actress but also as an administrator, producer, art director and educator. Tuncer served as Ahmet İsvan’s cultural adviser and worked as an administrator at Tepebaşı Sahnesi and Ankara Çağdaş Sahne; she also took part in poetry, radio theater and culture programs at TRT Istanbul Radio.
Tuncer, who appeared in nearly 80 films and television series during her career and worked behind the camera on more than 40 productions, appeared in productions such as “Aşk-ı Memnu,” “Fatmagül’s Fault” and “Suna.” The actress received Best Supporting Actress awards in 1989, 1991 and 2008, and was also honored with various honorary awards.
