President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a video message to the 9th Ordinary General Assembly of the Union of International Democrats (UID), which is headquartered in Germany.
Wishing the general assembly well, Erdoğan said he believed that the will manifested there would yield beneficial results for European Turks and the Turkish diaspora, which has a population of more than 7 million. Erdoğan thanked those working for the well-being of citizens abroad as well as civil society organizations.
Erdoğan noted that the UID strives to ensure that Turks abroad preserve their identity and culture and contribute to the societies they live in, including through democratic participation, and that it fights against cultural racism, Islamophobia, and xenophobia. Emphasizing that support would continue through his party’s Foreign Relations Department and Overseas Turks Department, Erdoğan said, “We will never leave our brothers and sisters living abroad at the mercy of either xenophobic movements or the types who belittle our citizens by calling them ‘zırzop.'”
